Our story

Saroja Foundation For Children was formed to honor the mother of our co-founder,
Dr. Pappur Shivakumar and Mrs. Shyla Shivakumar

"Saroja" means lotus flower in Sanskrit. The lotus is a symbol of triumph over obstacles. It starts out rooted deep in the mud as the bottom of the lake but prevails against adverse conditions until the lotus flower ultimately blooms on the surface of the water in the sunshine.

The Saroja Foundation for Children wants to provide support and financial safety net to children and youth in need to enable them to overcome obstacles and follow their dreams.

In the long term, we are working towards meeting the enhancement of the collective social conscience of Canadians about the rights of our children, child poverty, and child labour and the necessity for providing support to enable each child in this country not only to enjoy basic human rights but the opportunity to thrive.

Vision

Saroja Foundation for Children was formed to create a sense of hope for underprivileged youth under 18 years of age and provide them with opportunities to explore their ability. The foundation aims to establish a sense of personal worth and independence by providing a set amount of financial asset to each beneficiary when they reach legal age.

Special thanks to Dr. Shivakumar and his wife, Mrs. Shyla Shivakumar for their generosity.
